For the good cause
Social commitment has been a tradition at Kloster Eberbach for nine centuries. Since 2001, the Kloster Eberbach winery has been supporting regional, non-profit or charitable organisations with the proceeds from its charity wines, which now total 109,468 euros. 100% of the proceeds are donated to a good cause. We are upholding this tradition and will continue to donate a unique wine from our treasury in 2024.
The Charity Wine
1925 BENEFIZWEIN - UNIKAT Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Spätburgunder Natur Cabinet
The 1925 vintage is a rarity and a true treasure from the Assmannshäuser cellar. It dates back to the era of the legendary cellar master Ewald Schug, who created some of the world's best Pinot Noirs until the 1950s and left his mark on our cellar with incomparable Höllenberg wines. Only a few top wines from the 1925 vintage have survived to this day, and this Pinot Noir holds a special place among them, as it is one of the world's best from this vintage.
The wine has a deep red-brown colour and impresses with notes of caramelized dried fruit, burnt caramel and a strong acidity. The aroma features red currants and a subtle forest floor aroma, which fades into subtle nuances of blueberries on the finish. A medium body and a concise acidity give it a fascinating structure and pronounced spiciness, making it an unforgettable wine experience.
The beneficiary
Alzheimer Gesellschaft Rheingau-Taunus e.V.
The Alzheimer Gesellschaft Rheingau-Taunus e.V. Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe Demenz (AlzGRTK) has been a self-help organization and advocacy group for people with dementia and their relatives since 2015. It is one of more than 130 Alzheimer associations nationwide that belong to the German Alzheimer Association. The association works on a voluntary basis and is mainly financed by membership fees and donations. It aims to improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their relatives and is committed to a dementia-sensitive society.
The proceeds will make it possible for the first time to offer dementia-sensitive excursions for family caregivers and their sick family members together with HUFAD Rheingau (care for people with dementia and their families). Caring for a person with dementia requires a lot of patience and strength from relatives. Many become isolated because friends turn away or there is simply no time to maintain social contacts, no time for the “finer things” in life. Many reach the limits of their resilience and endanger their own health.
With its trained volunteers, HUFAD offers relatives hours of relief. The excursions to the surrounding area, which the Alzheimer's Society would like to offer as a cooperation partner, go beyond this. Affordable half-day trips are planned, on which the relatives do not have to worry about anything, on which they can “get out” again and experience culture and nature. Volunteers working in dementia care are to be deployed to support the participants. This offer must be designed to be dementia-sensitive and is not suitable for everyone with dementia. However, for those who benefit from it, it should be a day of inspiration and lightness away from everyday life, as it is for all participants. If the offer proves successful, it will be developed into an annual “supervised vacation”.
