It is a great privilege for me to have been able to cultivate this centuries-old vineyard for over 40 years - to a certain extent in the spirit of the Cistercians!

Cathedral for Riesling

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Tradition meets the Modern

Between Kloster Eberbach and Hattenheim, everything revolves around Riesling. Here, wines are produced with a nine-centuries-old commitment to quality. State-of-the-art technology ensures that the goodness matured in the vineyard is preserved during the pressing process. Gravity alone transports grapes and must over three floors into the 14-metre-deep cellar. You can experience this impressive technology up close during a Steinbergkeller guided tour.

The Steinberg has been the sole property of the Eberbach monastery since 1239. Its soils are characterised by Taunus slate, loess-loam and quartzite and are sometimes decisive for the expressive character of the wine.

Assmannshäuser Im Höllenberg Spätburgunder

VDP.ERSTE LAGE®

“Höllenberg” is derived from the Old High German word “helda” (meaning “steep slope”). This plot, “Im Höllenberg,” is the original plot of Höllenberg, which gave the entire vineyard its name. The plots are located in the valley facing away from the Rhine, with a pure south-facing orientation.
